How to paint over marble on the fireplace in a rental? Have to remove the paint when lease runs out!?

I have a client with an ugly marble fireplace. There is no problem painting it, but how can he remove the paint once his lease runs out. I am sure the landlord is very proud of his ugly marble mantle! Was thinking about a self adhesive film as an "undercoat" and our colour on top? Anyone have any ideas?
