What does this poem mean?By Lanston Hughes?

when he says i could've died for love....and when he talks about him sinking and jumping down...he is prob. talking about how he lost love...and how cold he felt inside and when he was talking about jumping he is talking about how he can't live without his love...but when he says but for livin' i was born he means that he got through all the pain and is still 'living'...hope that helped!
