Does capitalism create unpleasant workplace conditions?

capitalism encourages competition, not just between corporations but WITHIN them too, due to the heirarchy of power. does this create bad working conditions for people, eg. does it ruin the spirit of cooperation and trust between coworkers (that develops as a byproduct of knowing and working alongside them for years)
